my name is Yvonne, but I prefer to be called Yvi. I'm 26 years old and I'm from southern Germany. My adventure as an Au Pair has started in November 2018. I'm from the agency 'Cultural Care' and I'm taking care of 4 kids from 5 to 14 years.
Question 1. What does my name mean?
Yvonne is the feminine derivative of the male name Ivo, what means "the archer".
Question 2. What is something that has surprised me about living in the US?
Something that has surprised me in a good way was that the american people are very nice and open minded. Something that has surprised me in a 'bad' way was, that the kids never go out to meet their friends. I know it's not true but it seems like, they don't have any friends..
Question 3. What is one question I have about the Amish or about American culture?
A question I would have about the Amish people is if it's a religion or conviction to live without electricity. Before I came I didn't even know that people exist who are living without any electricity.
Question 4. What are three words that describe how you feel about (or what you know about) Amish culture?
1. admire 2. respectful 3. intrigued

Hi Yvonne! Welcome to the US! I have never heard the nickname "Yvi," and I think it is such a pretty way to shorten Yvonne. That is interesting to hear about the kids - do you think it's because they are using technology instead of meeting in person? That is sad to hear, if so! I remember really enjoying getting together with friends when I was young.
AntwortenLöschenI think your distinction between decisions based on religion and those based on conviction is a great one - we will definitely talk about this when we meet next weekend. Thanks!
